Senior Associate Dean and Professor Daniel Filler told the Times Herald of Norristown that Montgomery County Commissioner James Matthews can expect to face intense scrutiny, following his decision to remain in office after being indicted for perjury.

Matthews, charged in December with lying to a grand jury investigating political corruption in county government, will leave office in January 2012 after serving 12 years as a commissioner.

But Matthews’ decision not to step down immediately raised questions about his ability to serve effectively in his final days in office.

Filler was quoted in an article published on Dec. 30.
